The Time-Triggered Protocol TTP is a mature data communication
system that is low-cost and can handle safety-critical applications.
TTP has evolved from ongoing developments for more than 25 years.
During this period an open international discussion has taken place
to review the features and safety of the protocol.
Formal proofs, prototype implementation, and multi-million fault
injection experiments have been carried out to validate the protocol.
Based on those experiences, TTP is now used in commercial applications.
Based on stable specifications, TTP communication controllers have
been available since 1998. Qualified third generation silicon, supporting
communication speeds of up to 25 Mbit/s, is available today. This
high speed is coupled with efficiencies of up to 80%.
TTP enables innovation as it provides the consistent information
basis and safety mechanisms required for many new applications.
TTP provides hardware functions which guarantee safe communication.
This reduces the complexity and the verification and certification
costs of the application software. Certification typically accounts
for about 70% of a safety-critical system's cost. TTP has been adopted
by leading industry players due to its rigorous and cost-efficient
safety approach.
TTP provides the foundation for new levels of operational availability
and reduced life cycle costs. It enables flexible and modular design.
A library of proven, off-the-shelf modules can easily be customized
for new applications, reducing development cycle time, cost and
risk.
For example, the use of TTP may eliminate over half the wires in
an aircraft. This leads to lower costs for installations and upgrades,
reduces the weight, and increases the load-carrying capability.
The data bus communicates with all other components in real time,
giving pilots quick access to critical information.
Several chip models, a comprehensive tool chain for design, implementation
and validation as well as hardware boards and electronic control
units for prototyping are available for TTP. Please refer to Products.
A TTP Glossary
gives an alphabetically ordered overview of terminology related
to time-triggered technology. It explains definitions, acronyms,
and abbreviations found in technical documentation and product descriptions.
Filled with detailed information, it helps engineers to understand
the specific terms.
There also is available an Easy-to-Read
Glossary.
